Hedgehogs Class Autumn Term 1

What a busy first term! The children in Hedgehog Class have settled very well and it is a pleasure to see them so excited about their learning every day. Have a look at what we have been getting up to.

In maths this term, we have been learning all about numbers 0-15. We have been ordering numbers, finding ways to make the number with numicon and using objects to help us. The children have been using language of more and less, looking at doubling and sharing, and using concrete methods to add two amounts of objects together.

Our theme for this half term has been all about autumn, nature, and seasonal changes. We looked at ‘Leaf man’ by Lois Ehlert, ‘Pumpkin soup’ by Helen Cooper, ‘Owl babies’ by Martin Waddell, ‘Stanley’s stick’ by John Hegley, and ‘Stickman’ by Julia Donaldson. The children have had many opportunities to take their learning into the outdoor environment and have been excited about the changes to their classroom with each Power of Reading book. With each book, there have been opportunities for craft activities, writing opportunities and games. The children have made leaf pictures, handprint trees, stick models and shapes, decorated sticks, leaf prints and their own leaf men.

The Hedgehog team are very much looking forward to Spring term, and cannot wait to see what Hedgehog class get up to in the next topic.
