New Governors – November 2011
Firstly I would like to thank all the parents from myself (Paul Stone) and on behalf of Sarah Lemon for their votes during the recent parent governor ballot which resulted in me and Sarah becoming elected.
Both of us went to our first governor meetings on the 17th November, and sat on both the Curriculum and Finance, Personnel, Premises and Community sub-Committees.
All the existing governors made us feel very welcome and were more than helpful when it came to explaining the topics under discussion, and generally how the school operated. My first impression was that the school is in extremely good and capable hands, and run with a very high degree of professionalism.
I think the new Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that the school is currently working on is testament to the continuous commitment by the staff who are constantly building on and improving the learning opportunities for our children, and what an excellent tool VLE will be. I am certainly looking forward to working with my son on this structured learning environment, as I am sure all of you are too.
I was also very pleased to hear that extensive risk assessments are carried out both in and around school and for any external visits or trips, ensuring our children’s welfare is top of the schools priorities.
It is obviously early days for me and I have really only scratched the surface on my understanding of how everything is managed within the school, however I am certain that that any question or challenge I may raise along the way will be answered promptly and dealt with effectively, which is encouraging. I intend to spend a day in the school very soon, so I can get to know the teachers, teaching assistants, staff, the children and their parents, so I hope to meet some of you soon.
The reason I have written this small article is because I feel that it is important for parents to receive feedback from the governors they have elected and there should always be a good relationship between the parents and the governing body.
